Our Mission
"To glorify God and follow His leading by taking strategic action to reach others for Christ. To humbly follow His guidance by using the gifts and talents He's given us, and utilizing them toward the expansion and impact of His kingdom."
Sometimes, our mission to glorify God has nothing to do with sports:
A wonderful family that has been through a LOT was brought to our attention as a family in need by Officer Leonard Boen (school police officer for Granada Hills High School and brother of Christ First co-founder Tom Boen). This mother & her 2 daughters had been living for years without heating or air conditioning help; the unit needed serious work and they were completely unable to afford it. Having previously helped this family by purchasing portable heating units, Officer Boen reached out to us seeking a way that we could help them survive during the upcoming summer heat-wave, as well as in the future. Diann has 2 daughters, Shyan and Kelsey. The girls grew up in the San Fernando Valley and have lived there all their life. Throughout their childhood years, the girls watched helplessly as their Mom was both physically and verbally abused by their dad (it’s hard to fathom the stories they shared with us that would no one should ever have to experience). As they got older, their abusive father turned his attention to them and they began to be abused. Diann decided to take her daughters and leave and go to a shelter for abused women. After a long legal process a judge granted Diann the right to live in the home while also requiring the father to leave. Upon returning to their home, they found scars their dad had left; He had torn up the house leaving Diann needing to replace carpet, repair walls, and replace their belongings. A more serious scar was soon to be discovered- Diann found out that she had cancerous tumors in the brain. These were scars that would affect her permanently and remind her every month during chemotherapy of the pain she suffered for so many years.
But amazingly Diann, Shyan and Kelsey have not tired in their willingness to enjoy the blessings they have been given by God! They are a very close family which was very evident as we sat down with them for a "get to know you" lunch with Officer Boen, Tom Boen and Dave Engfer. "Shyan is one of the most mature graduates from High-School I have ever met" stated Dave as we left their home.
We thank God for this very special family and that we were able to help in a very special way. We want to give a special "Thank you" to Kenny Dallas from Integrity Comfort Systems in Simi Valley, CA for donating some of his time to make this project possible for this family! |
